  • Barak Obama... Cookie Monster

Not sure how the new President's popularity is faring in his homeland, but he's quite a hit up here. Cookie sales are soaring...
Barack Obama's Canadian souvenirs: Maple leaf cookies and a BeaverTail

It's true — U.S. President Barack Obama may have dined on Applewood Smoked Plains Bison, Winter Root Veg and Local Mushrooms for lunch with Stephen Harper on Parliament Hill, but he managed a quick stop to Ottawa's Byward Market for a true local taste before he left for the airport. He picked up maple leaf cookies from the bakery/cafe mainstay, Le Moulin de Provence, famous for its fabulous breads and pastries all made on the premises...

...Mr. Bammier went on to explain that Obama asked to buy some cookies for his daughters and chose the shortbread maple leaf cookies with the red icing and white piping that spelled out Canada. "He wanted me to take his money, but I said, no, they're on the house. He laughed and everybody was laughing, the secret service, the cameramen."

The bakery sold out of the chosen Obama cookie 15 minutes after the president left, Mr. Bammier said: "I think we sold 120 of those cookies. It's so great for the store."

The president also carried the tell-tale box from a nearby vendour of a takeout BeaverTail pastry, a deep-fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon sugar...

      Give him credit for this:

WASHINGTON — For his first annual budget next week, President Obama has banned four accounting gimmicks that President George W. Bush used to make deficit projections look smaller. The price of more honest bookkeeping: A budget that is $2.7 trillion deeper in the red over the next decade than it would otherwise appear, according to administration officials.

The new accounting involves spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Medicare reimbursements to physicians and the cost of disaster responses.

Where? Where? Where did you say?

I don't know. But it's a start twords honesty in budgeting. Wouldn't it be ironic if a liberal 1 term junior Senator who know one knew of became President and fixed the nations spening problems.

Barry should feel financially comfortable up in the North Subsidy as the Bank Of Canada is run by Mark Carney, Public Servant, a Goldman Sachs guy:

                  http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2007/10/04/bankgov.html

                  His Goldman qualifications:

Before joining the public service, Carney had a thirteen-year career with Goldman Sachs in its London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto offices. His progressively senior positions included co-head of sovereign risk; executive director, emerging debt capital markets; and managing director, investment banking. He worked on South Africa's post-apartheid venture into international bond markets, and was heavily involved in Goldman Sachs's work with the 1998 Russian financial crisis.[5]
                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Carney

Of course, when all this went down, few in Canada asked why someone with Canadian credentials (there are after all five major Canadian banks) couldn't run the Bank Of Canada. Of course, now that he is in, no one asks why someone from Failed Wall Street is running the Bank of Canada. Apparently, the disastrous Economic Expertise of Goldman is needed to run the Bank.

No word on whether Markie pays his taxes or not, probably no one even checked.

Re: Barak Obama...- The Cast of Characters

                      1. Chief of Staff - Rahm Emanuel - who was a former Board Member of Freddie Mac -

Wikipedia desciption :Emanuel was named to the Board of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation ("Freddie Mac") by then President Bill Clinton in 2000. His position paid him $31,060 in 2000 and $231,655 in 2001.[29] During the time Emanuel spent on the board, Freddie Mac was plagued with scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities.[30] The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) later accused the board of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention." Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 when he ran for congress.[

                      2. President Obama- was the 2nd highest Political Recipient of Fannie/Freddie PAC Money.

Did you know that in 1998 ACORN and Barack Obama sued CitiBank for Redlining (read not giving out enough Sub prime mortgages to minorities).

                      see court documents here http://clearinghouse.wustl.edu/detail.php?id=10112
Its the law suits to prevent Red lining was a significant contributor to the current melt down in Real Estate and the Banking Crisis.

So, the Very characters who fanned the fires of the Real Estate Bubble to MAKE Money for themselves - with no concern for the damage it would do to our Country - use the accumulated power and Cash to win the Office of the President - and people expect they'll fix the Problem!

If you think this Cast of Characters will fix the Problems I have a great Bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell to you.

The Canadian system works the other way around.

First you have to be a failed civil servant; someone who played a key role in a completely hopeless and utterly disasterous public financial policy. Then you get to leave Ottawa and run one of the five big banks.

Sounds farfetched? Track the career of Ed Clark, President and CEO of TD...;)
