Re: This one's for Lukester
Remember Auchwitz? [sic,] "Work makes you free."
I see no escape from this depression: not thru inflation, not thru real estate speculation, not thru de-valuations, not thru nationalism nor "buy American", not thru religion nor prayer, not thru more defence spending, not thru more stimulus and waste, not thru more consumption, not thru more stock speculation, not thru more zero interest rates, and not thru more insane economists preaching "Deficits don't count," nor "We can grow our way out of it," nor "Someday we are all dead."
This depression is because the U.S. has reached the limit of how much it can borrow. This is because the U.S. has lived off its children and the world until there is nothing left to take.
This depression will be solved by production and exports and a healthy world economy that would enable the entire world to buy American exports.
American production will depend upon cheap energy and cheap labour. That means, above all, the Americans have to be good at producing cheap electricity and cheap oil, in huge amounts. That in turn, means drilling for oil everywhere now. It means atomic power in huge amounts and now. It means wind farms on the Great Plains now.
The future means that Americans are going to have to live in apartments and ride bicycles to work. And work will be day and night at wages competitive with Asia.
You can thank the eco-frauds who killed nuclear power for this economic mess, and you can thank the rightwing who gave you supply-side economics and constant wars that never end for this mess.
Probably the homes in America, especially the big ones in California, will end-up being sold-off to the wealthy from around the world. And they deserve to be lost because they were bought with creative finance and fraudulent pyramid schemes.
"There is no escape." That was another slogan from Auchwitz that might now apply to the future.
