Re: Iceland: "A New Era of People Power in the Streets?"

Oh Boy, who said the Icelanders were a stoic bunch? Burning things, political upheaval, sounds like they can really party.

Icelanders shouldn't be upset. Soon they'll go back to their sod huts and practicing fishing again. They'll stop writing plays, designing new modern homes for themselves and having lesbian sex. In other words, they will start working again.

I heard as soon as their currency crisis hit, the stores emptied. The only things left were what Iceland produces, Cod. Not much of an economy if you ask me. I foresee the same scenario here in the USA. What do you think will be left in OUR stores when the rest of the world sobers up?

Icelands regression back to socialism will most likely produce a "Scandanavian Argentina" if anyone bothers to stay. After the indignant outrage and the dull realization that socialism once again DOESNT WORK, they can climb their way back to a viable economy again.

Seems to me that the private sector bails out the government every quarter when it's time to write that check to pay taxes. And after taking all that money, most of the time the government says "tough crap" if a business fails.

Sure, once in a while the state will bail out a business, but even that amounts to nothing more than taking money from one part of the private sector and giving it to another.

I'd say the system we've lived under for the past 70 years has been one of public gains and private losses.
