Re: Things very bad in Ireland!

Thank you for your posts on Ireland, Mega. I have a daughter living there for the past couple of years and seems content to stay. Her father is less content but appreciative of the posts.

At least they are trying to take their medicine in Ireland instead of putting it off. I would like to see some similar action in the USA.

I too have a (Swedish) daughter living in Dublin since last year, she found a well-off (no debt problems apparently) Irish young man while working in Nice and just took off with him. She got a good job in a fashion shop (her specialty) in Dublin and seems to be doing very well - though I've been waiting to hear that she got sacked, but not yet anyway. Being half-Irish myself by ancestry I was thinking maybe it would be a nice place to live as a pensioner, but the real-estate prices were so extreme so I gave up on that idea a while back. Maybe in a few years?

Tis one of the thing i admire Both Spain & Ireland for, they are "Facing it". US & UK are NOT!

Brian Cowen could be awarded the Biggest Lips prize, surely ranking above any other head of state.

Our economy is indeed undergoing a 'correction' Like Crash-and-Burn:eek: The politicians have reacted with predictable haste and hubris - SAVE THE BANKS - sorry, I meant SC**W the TAXPAYERS! - and the children of the taxpayers, and the children of the the children of the taxpayers ... ... You get the message!

The real problem is our debt; national, corporate and personal. The latter is a dangerous mix of mortgage and credit card - like cellulose perchlorate waiting to be kicked over. Poof!
