  • ......and so it begins

    http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/02...-gallardo.html

As we go though 2009, more & more will get sacked. Those whom thought they were inmune to so things WILL get hit!............From 2010 to 2013 i think we will have more of this(above) action.

Carjacking/Armed attacks/Home break in etc will rocket, mindless in fact pointless acts will be the norm. I hope from 2012 things start to improve.....people will be glad to see NEW fast cars about....it will restore HOPE.

Youngsters? The Euro press is every bit as cowed, no doubt more so, than we are here, when describing perps.

Very sorry to hear that happened to you. I remember you telling the story. That is one of my motivations for warning our readers of an increasing risk of carjacking in the US. We will all be very upset if it happens to any member of our community.

              Be careful out there, folks.

Burning a car, any car, is a crime. It's called arson. The people who do such things aren't "youngsters" or the US favorite ""youths". They are best termed "criminals," "thugs," or "dirtbags."

                        Re: ......and so it begins

This reminds me of hearing about how people in South Africa began to install flame throwers in the doors of their cars so they could frighten away carjackers at intersections when they had to come to a stop.

Also I am reminded of an article written by an Argentine about how things changed in that country after their 2001 financial crisis. So many people began to run red lights because it was too dangerous to come to a stop for fear of getting carjacked that at some places the police just changed the signals to always stay on yellow. The author of the article said that at first it was unnerving when potential carjackers would step in front of his car to try to force him to come to a stop. He learned to accelerate at full speed directly towards them when that happened so they would jump out of the way. He also said it was best to have a utility vehicle-style big bumper on the front of the car for pushing blocking cars out of the way and four wheel drive so you could drive off through a ditch if necessary. And absolutely necessary to carry a handgun with you in the car.

Another thing I picked up from the article: the necessity of brick/plaster walls on houses to prevent intruders from simply smashing through the siding and sheetrock to get into the house. And the benefits of houses designed around an inner courtyard so you could get some sunshine and air without the danger of being outside the house. People in Argentina learned to be very careful when leaving or entering the house because that is when the intruders were most likely to force their way in. People would answer the door by opening a second floor window and looking down instead of actually opening the front door.

Made me think how poorly designed the typical American suburban house is for protecting the occupants from home invasion.
