ITulip is an excellent site indeed

My views are strictly my own, and I have held them for quite a long time, going back to an intense study of monetary matters starting in 1992 but really gaining momentum with the tech bubble in 1999.

I don't know enough to say if what I think is iTulip material or not, but if Eric believes similarly I would considre that a genuine compliment and a confirmation that I am on the right track.

I try to use the Socratic method a lot, but have come to the conclusion that it is largely useless since people spend most of their time talking their book and following cargo cult economics.

Best to all here. keep up the good work from a 'junior site' in longevity for sure.

I'm a daily reader as well and have quoted you a few places in my own stuff. Always compelling.

Jesse has my utmost respect - a class act.

I've been reading his work since well before I brought my own site up in 2005, and have learned a great deal from him. More power to incisive observation & analysis, staying focused on the truly important things and no "noise", etc.
He & EJ are quite different but complement each other quite well in my opinion.

                    Case in point.

I'd like to add my 2 cents to this little circle jerk.

The iTulip owners and administrators are the most self-confident and genuine group of intellectuals that I have ever had the pleasure with which to interact. Their openness to intelligent ideas, even opposing viewpoints, is second to none and reflects a lack of ego that is as refreshing as it is rare.

I haven't followed Jesse, other than what fellow iTuliper's have posted, but I'm going to add his site to my must-read list. Welcome to the site, Jesse, I look forward to your participation.

Keep up the great work everyone and thanks for your efforts.

P.S. Jesse...I would happily pay your subscription fee for the first year if you'd like to become an iTulip Select member for full access to all posts and features.

Re: ITulip is an excellent site indeed

Thanks Jesse. I am and have been a big fan.

"My views are strictly my own, and I have held them for quite a long time, going back to an intense study of monetary matters starting in 1992 but really gaining momentum with the tech bubble in 1999."

That sums up my situation as well starting in about 1996.

I am late to Itulip but as you say, "if Eric believes similarly I would considre that a genuine compliment and a confirmation that I am on the right track."

                        Very gracefully put.

Thanks again and good luck to all of this as this unfolds.

Re: What he said... Jesse on the Tedious Debate

So, you were a good student, near the top of your high school class. You just graduated from a good college. You try to get all your facts straight and and make rational arguments and come to logical conclusions.

What someone should tell you is that the rest of your life is going to be living Hell.

You have, unfortunately, been born on Planet Delusional. Most of the people you will deal with in graduate school and in life think things that have nothing whatsoever to do with this Universe. And even drawing pictures will not work.

Don't waste time trying to figure out why they think strange things or try to change them. Just give up. The only thing you can do is make sure you do not do bad things on purpose and that you do not confuse what you want with what is, or is likely to be.

There is still purpose in life for you to find. One of the best guides is Middlemarch.

"...for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

                            — George Eliot

Didn't mean to offend. It's likely a generational thing since it's not an offensive phrase in my circles (no pun intended). To me it means mutual, expressed admiration to the point of going overboard.
