good for jim! quite an honor to get bitched out by a wanker like brown.

the again, jim's a broken record these days... 'the fed sucks, the dollar's going down, the pound's doomed, buy my fund, commodities gonna go up, china's the balls, buy my fund, the dollar is doomed, america's fucked, chinese commies, er, capitalists are cool, the fed sucks, buy my fund' etc. etc. etc. the media loves the guy. what's his role in the system?

I like Rogers. He's the first to admit that his sense of timing is terrible. I think he's right for the long term, but I certainly wouldn't base any investment decisions on his advice or perspective.

One thing I've wondered about, though, is the media often introduce him as a "legendary investor," and I've seen others casually refer to him as a "billionaire." But I did a little digging, and can find no support at all for either of those claims. Sure, he was a co-founder in the Quantum Fund, but as far as I can tell, he left before all of the real money was made there. I'm not saying he isn't well-off, but being well-off doesn't make one a good investor (in fact, it can easily be the reverse).

I guess he just enjoys the press. They probably like him because he's an outspoken contrarian, wears a quirky bow-tie and speaks with a mild southern accent.

Maybe he figured out long ago that being poor sucks [because you spend all your time trying to make enough money to buy food and pay the utilities] and being uber-rich sucks just as much [because having too much money just overcomplicates your life].

Having enough not to have to sell your labour to someone else every day, thus freeing the time to explore the world on a bike and then again by car, sounds just about right to me.
