Not only may it signal tensions going forward, but Americans hear this shit and some assume that our own currency isn't manipulated. Maybe that is part of the point of saying it over and over again?

I try to keep one thing in mind and that is, talk is cheap. It would be amazing to see any US representative do something that angers China. From my own US military experience, it would not be pretty. China may be years behind economically speaking, but as for military might they have a distinct advantage under water.

I guess it's a step up from Paulson

China Central Bank Attacks Paulson’s ‘Gangster Logic’ (Update1)

        By Li Yanping

Jan. 16 (Bloomberg) -- A Chinese central bank official attacked reported comments by U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson that China’s high savings rate helped trigger the global credit crisis.

“This view is extremely ridiculous and irresponsible and it’s ‘gangster logic,’” Zhang Jianhua, the bank’s research head, said. His comments were in an interview with the state-run Xinhua News Agency, posted on a government Web site today.

Commentaries by China’s state media this month had already accused Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke of playing a “blame game” over the cause of the crisis.

Friction between the two nations includes a U.S. complaint to the World Trade Organization last month that China uses prohibited subsidies to boost exports. The U.S. also regards China’s currency, the yuan, as undervalued and a factor in global trade imbalances.

Massive savings accumulations in countries such as China helped to trigger the crisis by squeezing interest rates and pushing investors toward riskier assets, the Financial Times reported Jan. 2, quoting Paulson.

This is nothing to do with military, it's business. If China doesn't buy US treasury and in the process strengthen the dollar, who is going to fund the bailouts? I think Obama's team needs a debriefing on how the current system works.

I agree completely, for now. I am keeping a close eye on what the US does so that I know when I actually need to build my bunker and have food and water ready for the half-lives to pass. This statement assumes that US leaders of the time "screw up". A debriefing might be nice, but it wouldn't matter depending on true intent. I don't think anyone can safely say they truly know what Obama's plans are, maybe not even Obama himself. What beliefs does he hold and where are his ideas coming from?
I personally can not safely answer that question at this point so I will wait and watch. I will also train my children on the use of a firearm when I see that they can truly grasp the concept of power.

Don't understand. Know our carriers are just big sitting ducks but didn't think that the underwater 'fleet' was that far behind the Chinese. Numbers? Not that it matters, any war with China would be a lose lose situation after all was said and done. Just curious.

Absolutely, a lose lose situation. I just hope that confidence games and power struggles and protectionism as practiced by world governments doesn't lead to an ego problem on any side. I don't know the potential of US leaders, or Chinese for that matter. I just don't trust any of them is all I'm saying.

                      That seems a bit extreme.
