I can do better now with my paper dollars than ever before--- at least in some years, thank you.

Yes, gold is great in theory, but theories do not buy groceries. Yes, gold will go up someday soon, but not yet. There is no reason for gold to go up when everything is going down in price.

The cost of living is going to continue to drop for a while, especially if we can get control of these eco-frauds--- the ones who have driven-up the cost of land, the cost of housing, the cost of energy, and the cost of everything by their strategy of blocking development.

I thought when everyone says to buy something you are likely at an apex of a bubble and it is time to sell.

We all understand that a return to some form of Bretton Woods is coming, but probably it will not be soon. First, we have to go deeper into depression until more people begin to question economists and kids begin to revolt against the teaching offered by their economics professors in universities. This will take time.

For now, gold at $800US+ is no deal, especially when oil is $38 per barrel. Oil will work just fine as an inflation hedge, so will land, so will homes, so will silver at under $10US per oz, so will copper, so will steel, etc. But as gold settles back--- if it settles back in price--- gold will become attractive again as a long-term hold.

Everything needs discipline, even a gold investment. And when gold becomes a religion, I want oil or something else to hold--- not gold.

Gold seems to work best as an investment when gold is hated, and not enough people hate gold now.

Are you saying your barber and taxi driver are saying they are making a "killing" in gold?

Where I live, people think I am nuts for buying gold as an investment.

That is level 2 or 3 out of 100 on the bubble-o-meter in my book.

I can relate to that, because where I live, three of the individuals whom I have given MHO to about gold as a possible hedge all responded with a similar "what have u been smokin?" tone. These three happen to be:

the president of a local bank
an account mgr at Smith Barney(he's my client, not vice versa)
an upper level mgr at a local jewelry store chain

Understandable, coming from a well digger who still gets his clothes dirty, can you blame? Naturally they all see that light at the end of the tunnel. I see it too but I still think it's a train.

Mate, better start selling it. Otherwise, it'll never get there!

You're kind of a glass half empty kind of guy, aren't you, Mega.

I, on the other hand, am grateful to the Tulip that I'm not (yet) in some sweatshop "attending" the needs of some fat old bastard.
