In light of the mass stupidity and corruption shown by the banking system during the housing bubble, the Federal Reserve and FDIC should seriously consider shutting down many of the banks and liquidating their assets--even those considered "too big to fail."

When, in my earlier posts, I had suggested that the United States of America was becoming a Feudal State, I was talking about banking. Now, this is not about the banks, it is about the local and state level government administration, (sheriff's staff and cronies). This is legalised theft. No other description needed.

For those who haven't read all of the threads on the ways to store gold, this video clip should make it clear that storing gold in a safety deposit box in the United States is not safe.

Re: Where we are going to as a country - legalized theft
I remembered their was a big safe deposit raid in Great Britain sometime back. Here it is:
"Safety deposit box raids yield £1bn of drugs, cash and guns"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-and-guns.html
I remember thinking at the time, whoa baby, going to new frontiers here. I never did see a followup to this story. Maybe, it was just COP SHOW TIME! Also, if I recall correctly wasn't there a provision in the misnamed Patriot Act or related legislation regarding the seizure of safe deposit boxes?
As many predicted in the past as the downward spiral developed, there would come a time when folks who wanted to get their chips out of the Casino would be looked upon and treated unfairly. As in: CONFISCATION.
These folks want all your assets in the game and not safe outside in some hidey hole.

There are some interesting conclusions drawn in this article on the British Safe Deposit Raid. The primary one is: Do not use a "safe" deposit box:
"My recommendation is to close out any safekeeping relationship you have with a bank or private vault, anywhere in the world. The London raids demonstrate that as soon as you deposit property there, you've essentially given up all legal rights to it."

Certainly, food for thought in this Homeland Security/everything is different now world.

In sums: ok, but where do you keep a good chunk of gold? nothing is safe.
If governments confiscate gold, I assume they might also do the same with gold stocks, silver, commodities etfs etc. etc. So, if they really want it in my book, they will get it unless you are in "the club".

Re: Where we are going to as a country - legalized theft
A few years ago, there was a fairly credible rumor going around California that bank managers had been called to meetings with government officials (I think federal, but can't remember) and told that in case of national emergency and folks hurrying to banks to empty out their boxes, that managers would supervise and confiscate precious metals and fire arms. Maybe cash too, can't recall.

Re: Where we are going to as a country - legalized theft
This story causes my mind to wander to places I'd rather not go; but in the interest of self-protection would it be better to hold a safe deposit box (with fake or mostly worthless contents) as a trip-wire? I figure in the Patriot Act age, no transaction I ever make is out of view. Maybe it's better to let them find and confiscate something. If only Jesse James was still around to ask!
