Just how evil are short sellers? Ask James Bond.
The new Bond movie, “Casino Royale,” features a villain who plans to make $100 million by short-selling a stock and then blowing up the company’s prototype product, which we are told would bankrupt the company. Bond foils the nefarious plot.
Along the way, it is indicated that short-selling was somehow related to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, an idea that was raised at the time but never substantiated by investigations.
A generation ago, Bond villians plotted to start nuclear wars and obtain world domination. Now they kill to make a killing in the stock market.
------------------
as amusing as this is, it raises dark questions about the scape-goating that will accompany what lies ahead of us.
