  • Illinois Threat to Bank of America Is Dangerous, Critics Say

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=agOFtufX.FXQ

"Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s threat to halt the state’s dealings with Bank of America Corp. over a shut-down factory in Chicago extends a “dangerous” trend of politicians meddling with commerce, a former general counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said."

Besides "you can't make this level of hubris up" together with an airing of America's class conflict free environment , it will be interesting to see how this is "contained". I expect some serious damage control is going on around erasing this response by fed up working people to the too obvious class disparities endlessly in play.

This is a classic class-grounded Black Swan event.

Welcome to the United States of Argentina. It all starts with too much debt.

        Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich arrested

        http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...,1537801.story

Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff John Harris were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges.

        Tribune staff report
        9:00 AM CST, December 9, 2008

Updated at 9:08 a.m.: Blagojevich and Harris were arrested simultaneously at their homes at about 6:15 a.m., according to the FBI. They were transported to FBI headquarters in Chicago, where they remained at 9 a.m.

Updated at 9 a.m.: Blagojevich is slated to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan today at a time that has not yet been scheduled, according to Randall Samborn of the U.S. attorney's office.

Updated at 8:57 a.m.: On the issue of the U.S. Senate selection, federal prosecutors alleged Blagojevich sought appointment as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the new Obama administration, or a lucrative job with a union in exchange for appointing a union-preferred candidate.

Blagojevich and Harris conspired to demand the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members responsible for editorials critical of Blagojevich in exchange for state help with the sale of Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs baseball stadium owned by Tribune Co.

Blagojevich and Harris, along with others, obtained and sought to gain financial benefits for the governor, members of his family and his campaign fund in exchange for appointments to state boards and commissions, state jobs and state contracts.

"The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement. "They allege that Blagojevich put a 'for sale' sign on the naming of a United States senator; involved himself personally in pay-to-play schemes with the urgency of a salesman meeting his annual sales target; and corruptly used his office in an effort to trample editorial voices of criticism."

Good god. How much simpler could it get? Bank makes promises to employees. Bank gets itself into trouble and is bailed out using workers' taxes. Bank breaks promises to employees. FDIC says evil workers and their misguided supporters are messing things up.

This is the kind of thing that leads to flaming pieces of cloth being stuck in the top of gas-filled bottles. The FIRE economy pigs have gotten so fat, dumb and comfortable in the last 25 years they can't imagine that the rest of the country might not go along forever.

Hubris appears to still reign. Regardless of how corrupt the Gov may be, the timing is a dead-on warning. The gloves are coming slowly but steadily off.

(Does anyone believe there's not a dossier on every elite politician in America? A basic ticket of admission, double pun intended. )

Come with us now to the area between dawn and dusk, between sunshine and the darkness. Come with now to the Gray Area....

"Ever since the country’s founding, prosecutors, defense lawyers and juries have been trying to define the difference between criminality and political deal-making. They have never established a clear-cut line between the offensive and the illegal, and the hours of wiretapped conversations involving Mr. Blagojevich, filled with crass, profane talk about benefiting from the Senate vacancy, may fall into a legal gray area."

The Gray Area, where the real deals are cut and the real money is made....
