My understand is the LA Times is both profitable and increasingly so, though incapable of handling the enormous debt load that accompanied Zell's ownership. A FIRE-side classic

You could be right on the Tourette's Syndrome -- I just thought that the stress of the situation had led him to have "one too many"

Within a few years (3-4) several major U.S. cities won't have printed daily newspapers - everything will be on the Internet.

in my opinion it should be like that. Maybe a lot of local "journalist" with blogs doing a lot of the local news reporting as well.

I mean, we can see the trends. It is already starting - Is Detroit still a major city?

Press release from Detroit Media Partnership

Changes due to occur in first quarter 2009 include:

Expanding digital information channels that provide news and information to a variety of audiences when, where and how they want it.

Limiting newspaper home delivery to Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays while selling printed copies at newsstand seven days a week.

Providing subscribers daily access to electronic editions, exact copies of each day’s printed newspapers.
