    But many of the companies in question have not failed.

    They still lurch forward, zombie-like, with the government cash i.v. plugged into their arms:

    AIG - direct i.v.
    Citibank - direct i.v.
    Wachovia - plugged into BofA
    WaMu - plugged into JPM
    (the two above, perhaps vice versa in a frankenstein fashion)
    GM - bailout forthcoming

    This is kind of the point about malinvestment - what we're seeing now is exactly the same as what Japan did in the 90's with their financial sector.

      I don't thing the ARM readjustment peak is the only variable. What about foreclosures due to rising unemployment and the ensuing Depression?
