it's a good article...argues well that the real danger of fighting deflationary depression at all costs (as the Fed is doing now) is possibly a worse depression later -- caused by massive inflation and resultant flight from the USD.

      From the article:

That will in turn lead to global recognition of the need for a vastly more disciplined global financial system and one where gold, the "barbarous relic" scorned by most modern central bankers, may well play a part.
His spell checker must have botched that. He had to have been intending to type "hoarded."

compared to the past it is scorned.

According to research house CPM, as told to Jim Puplava by CPM's Jeffrey Christian, more Gold as a fraction of woldwide total Gold is in private hands today than at any time in history.

Central banks and governments whose Golda accounts are public have purchased no new Gold in decades, have been selling Gold for decades, and almost all new Gold mining output has been going directly to private Gold holders for decades.

That's why I added the caveat about public information, about government accounts that are public knowledge.

That caveat also lets me off the hook if I'm wrong & the US & European governments are buying Gold in secret.

Do you include the Federal Reserve in that "government" umbrella? If so, when haven't they been doing anything in secret?

I don't know the specifics of what CPM & Jeffrey Christian have researched and what they claim in detail -

his claim was just that private ownership was for the first time in history higher than official holdings in 2006.

I would assume, what with their anti-Gold public rhetoric, if the US FED is buying Gold they are doing it completely in secret, 3 or 4 parties removed.

Probably with a wink & a nudge to some bullion bank or other, no paper to embarrass anyone.
