Re: Keiser: Issue Fatwa Against Counterfeiters

My interest in posts like this one and the two regarding Gerald Celente are only to gauge how out-of-control the iTulip community will get as we work our way through this economic downturn. I've been thinking of posting a news event that has the following in the title:
    1. Gold
    2. Oil
    3. Depression
    4. SHTF
When I'm sure I've got the right formula, I'm going for it. Who cares about substance if I'm in the top 10. Hum...financial terrorism, that's got a ring to it.

Glad to see you've got your own head screwed on good and tight during this hurricane Santafe2. BTW my tea-leaves are reading a humongous boom for "solar-anything" in the next five years, right here in the US stock markets. If you are in this industry you will have a wind at your back such as the US has never before witnessed. EJ will be right, smack, "on the money" on this call. I don't own a single stock at this time, but am looking at this sector with deadly seriousness for the next 4 years.

I agree with Max. We need more people like Max. And the guys part comedian, you've got to take that into account too.

Thanks Luke. I'm sure you're correct about the five year time line. DARPA and DuPont are funding the VHESC solar program like it was the Internet in 1990 and they've proved over 42% net output with their partners at the University of Delaware consortium.

For me the time line is quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily. Like most startups we've got it all on the line every day and being right in the long term is nothing if you're not right today. There will be a ton of solar road kill in the next 4-5 years. We don't intend to be new energy skidmarks but this is not an economy that suffers fools easily. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Sorry - If Max Keiser set out to carve a niche for himself as "a nitty-gritty newsman" he's wandered somewhat off target. He is embellishing his reporting with a good dose of sensationalism and that is why I don't consider it appropriate to regard him as a newsman. Apparently straight journalism is too common a fare for Max Keiser - he prefers a richer diet, and he loses stature in my estimation for that stylistic preference.

Not so say he does not provide an excellent "near-literal" reportage - but it is precisely his sense of license to depart from the "strictly literal" which ultimately loses him his most serious audience. There is an essential misunderstanding of the meaning of "gravitas" in his reporting style. Even though by and large his analyses are roughly correct, by indulging flamboyance and succumbing to "interpretative embellishment", he loses credibility.

Marvenger, if you cannot make this stringent distinction as to whom you rely upon for your "bottom line" news, you will cast yourself adrift. I see that you implicitly acknowledge this point as you refer to him as partly an entertainer, but your distinction as to the clear demarcation of responsible journalism should be a good deal more explicit. In the most hazardous times, the reporter who is totally devoid of embellishment is the only one to be trusted. In a truly life critical situation, you need less reporters like Max, and more of the other variety.

I hear what you're saying and I agree its a stylistic preference. Max obviously isn't aiming for institutional credibility, he's a true libertarian in my mind, and more than willing to trust his audiences intelligence to guage how seriously they should take him. This is true reporting in my mind. Trying to be sober about it is trying to impart a level of truth to what you are saying that doesn't exist. But that's my stylistic preference. I don't think its going to become dominant any time soon.

However, while Keiser is telling it like it is, the flip side is that he and folks like Celente are also helping fan-the-flames....potentially moving us to your step-4 sooner.
Are you suggesting that government is not looking out for our best interest? I'm shocked. Should we do something?

You would compare our current situation with that of the colonists in 1776? Something equivalent to a foreign armada landing in New York? That might take some explanation if that is your point.

                        Dear Luke:

Stay out of solar unless you have a secret death wish to lose money. Solar is a sad joke.

The economics of solar are based upon junk science, junk accounting, pot-head economics, and wishful thinking.

Yes, you might be able to knock up to 40% off of your electric bill, but you would have to be on top of your roof every day cleaning with water. So add back labour costs and water costs, no small cost in the South-west.

The future is atomic energy, oil, natural gas, and heavy oil. Some windmills will help out on the Great Plains too.

Stay away from those pot-heads on the West Coast.

                        Starving Steve;)

Don't forget to mention the two million people in U.S. prisons--- the prison empire known as the American gulag. And don't forget to mention the drug war against the people.
