    Internet savings bank, BIG in Euro-land.............just got a bale from Dutch. Their website has gone down

              I don't think that was widespread enough to concern the average man on the street - not very nice for those who were caught up in it but hardly in the same league as Northern Rock, WaMu etc.

              There is a good lesson in it though - don't buy something you don't understand and keep the salt shaker handy when seeking "advice" from a financial advisor.

                You'd be surprised how many of their clients brokers like Canaccord put into ABCP. For the "average man on the street" who simply had a savings or chequing account both Northern Rock and WaMu never posed any danger of loss [the respective governments agreed to cover all deposits]. Not so with ABCP in Canada. And given what's going on right now, the risk of loss remains.
