    Apparently the thing to buy DURING the crash is a flat screen television!

    "Sales of flat-panel televisions are up an unwavering 40 percent from last year and the videogame industry is poised to do more business this year-end holiday season than it did in 2007, said CEA economist Shawn DuBravac.""Consumers are cocooning; hunkering down."

    I wonder if iTulip has an evil twin out there. A site where all these people go to get informed and are told to get prepared for the crash by stocking up on electronics :confused:

      Entertainment always does well in times of severe economic recession.

          When you are thinking that the streets won't be safe in the near future stocking up on home entertainment is a good way to keep from going stir crazy when SHTF.

            I'll buy BRIC indices after the crash: the monetization will most quickly avail them.

              Actually I am looking forward to getting rid of the gold as I would rather see my capital employed in productive use, but each to their own.

              "T" are you sure the process will work?

                How do you chaps grow algae over there in the British Isles? I thought the sun never shone over there (bcoz it's foggy and overcast all the time?). We can grow algae much better down here in Southern California, where the sun always shines. Also, our cultural level is much more in synch with algae growth down here (about 3 millimeters deep and spongy).

                  Seems that the street agrees with your view:

                  Last Trade: 15.43
                  Trade Time: 4:02PM ET
                  Change: -1.02 (-6.20%)

                  Cameco was down more than 15% before 10am today...

                        Well if it doesn't work I can grow vegetables. You don't need all that much sun for algae, really.

                          I think algae can be very nice stuff. Dry it out and form it into pellets and you can burn it for heat or power a steam turbine. You can take some of the pellets and feed it to fish in a fish pond and you've got food. Take the fish waste and dump it in your algae pond and you've got nearly a closed system. Combine it with the right mix of nitrogen, let it rot, and you've got methane, a nice substitute for NG. Ferment it and you can get ethanol or methanol and put it in your car. Nice stuff algae is.

                            Here's my quick contrary opinion on nuclear:
                            • primarily used to generate electricity;
                            • lots of alternative ways to make electricity;
                            • lots of political overhead if you want to build a nuke power plant and you are anywhere near the axis of evil [e.g. India is close enough and look at the grief], this rubs off on ROW...both ways...some want, some run;
                            • one big driver for nuke is no CO2 emissions...but climate change is off the mainstream agenda while the world deals with other minor problems...like how to keep your economy from imploding and your people from starving, or worse...rioting; when all said and done, does climate change come back on agenda? or has it had its day? nuke depends on it imo;
                            • other big driver for nuke is energy security for US, which has ample deposits of uranium...unfortunately US in no mood to build any nukes for last 30+ years and not bloody likely any time soon [see bullet 2, mix with equal parts tort lawyers and NIMBY];
                            When Poom comes I prefer to own those commodities that have few to zero substitutes, are essential to the immediate aspirations of citizens in the fastest growing economies, and have a political overhead that constrains their supply instead of constraining their consumption.

                            That's not to say there won't be lots of money made by astute traders in uranium, but I doubt I will be one of them.
