easy for him to say, sitting atop his fortune.

my career has been directly impacted by the credit-crunch (project development in alt-e etc).

the patient is in surgery: you can't just walk away. well, you can, but there will be blood...

phirang...I'm not TOO dogmatic about all this so this however........
The Credit crunch we are experiencing is due, not to short term problems, but to decades of over-consumption, over-borrowing, over indulgence, and above all the rip-off of the savers so that we have no savings....in my not so humble opinion "Creating" a few hundred billion is not going to solve anything at all.

I think Jim is arguing that bailing this out will not help your situation. in fact we are pouring money into institutions that are fundamentally flawed. As such it will prevent money flowing in directions it ought go...like Alt-E. Further it will prevent money flowing where it ought for a decade or more. I have a feeling he is right!

It seems to me this whole bail-out idea is perpetuating the very fundamental thing we have wrong...that is, we think we can just create wealth by saying it exists...no need to save or work!

Anyway, there is nothing new about what i'm saying so i'll quit!

I don't think you can compare Russia and Japan in the 90's to the US $ and it's role as the reserve currency of the world.

Vladimir Putin lashes US for economic failures

        ...

“Everything that is happening in the economic and financial sphere has started in the United States. This is a real crisis that all of us are facing," the former president told a government meeting in Moscow.

“And what is really sad is that we see an inability to take appropriate decisions. This is no longer irresponsibility on the part of some individuals, but irresponsibility of the whole system, which as you know had pretensions to (global) leadership."

Putin's pissed because he's reminded of what a basket-case his country is.

            America is in trouble.
It has a government that are masters at sowing fear.
Since 9/11 Americans have allowed themselves to be bullied and maneuvered by inept and dangerous leaders.
You are acting in panic like a herd of buffalo being driven down a channel to jump off a cliff.
            Stop.
            Relax.
            Don't panic.
            The sun will rise tommorrow.
Do not trust liars and thieves.
            Trust yourselves and CHANGE GOVERNMENT.
Try not to completely tie the hands of your next president.
