As central banks sell less, investors are rushing into bullion-backed exchange traded funds to such an extent that some analysts refer to the ETFs as the “people’s central bank” because they are now bigger than most countries’ official reserves.
Bullion ETF holdings reached a record 1,056.7 tonnes – or more than $30bn – on Friday, up 33 per cent in the past 12 months and double the 2006 level.

The United States' holding of gold is worth approximately $241 billion (July 2008). Although the United States has the largest reserves of individual countries, in total the eurozone gold holdings are greater (11,065 tonnes as of December 2007).

Does anyone here trust anything "officially reported" by our Government? Or reported as such in Wikipedia?

According to data I've seen reported on by GATA and others, much of our so called gold reserve has been swapped, lent, or is otherwise now recorded as being in "deep storage" -- all of which suggests the official reports are as full of black holes as the official balance sheets of Wall Street's banks.

Without an independent and transparent audit of our gold reserves, the only recourse is to presume we are being lied to.

Hence I audit and place in deep storage my own reserves!
