We are in a crazy world...

The refinery is real, and openly announced as a part ownership of Pemex and Shell. Deer Park Refinery.

From the school of unsubstantiated claims and missing citations!

This is pot-head thinking again. The sad reality is that corn ethanol biofuel does NOT provide anywhere near the mileage that pure gasoline provides. And the gas stations that I have seen do NOT sell 10% ethanol blends at much of a discount to pure gas.

Whenever you listen to greens, you either end-up with junk science, pot-head math, or both.

The U.S. COULD become a net-exporter of gasoline someday, but the U.S. would have to switch its transportation fleet to electric motors and hybrids. That switch would require the building of hundreds of new atomic power plants and natural gas power plants to provide enough energy on the grid to make the switch to electric vehicles possible.

This means lots of wires, the big ugly heavy wires. The giant cone-heads will be marching everywhere across the countryside. That is 2050, for sure.

At least, this ugly electricity will mean that our grandchildren, or our great-grandchildren, will have a better life than we had at the beginning of the 21st C. We owe it to the future generations to make the painful switch-over to electric vehicles now.

Hundreds of nuclear power plants is right! According to the Energy Information Agency, American energy consumption for transportation in 2007 was 29 quadrillion BTU. To convert BTU to kilowatt hours, multiply by 0.00029307107. In other words, our annual transportation energy usage is about 8.5 trillion kilowatt hours. Now, assuming no down time, your average 1-GW (1-million kilowatt) nuke plant will generate 8.76 billion kilowatt hours in a year. This is a very rough estimate, but swapping apples for apples, 8.5 trillion divided by 8.76 billion is real close to 1000.

Too bad China is busy scooping up the metal deposits in Africa necessary to make these batteries while we drop depleted-U falafels in Iraq...

Oh, and the DRC just officially dicked-over Freeport and Lundin on the Tenke project... whoops!

Looks like the $12B china gave the DRC will pay off after all...
