Re: Russia threatens military response to US missiles

    2 things:

    1) As the EU and US are threatening to impose economic sanctions on Russia, then how exactly is Russia threatening to not deliver oil/natural gas an inappropriate behavior?

In some sense Russia is self-imposing an economic sanction.

    2) There are pipelines running the other direction.

Crude pipeline to China target end of 2008:

Natural gas pipeline to China target 2010 start, 2013 completion

Re: Russia threatens military response to US missiles

To understand US Grand Strategy, read the book: Zbigniew Brzezinski: The Grand Chessboard (currently Brzezinski is Obama's advisor).

        For a shorter version.
        http://www.engdahl.oilgeopolitics.ne...ian_giant.html

        And even shorter:
The goal of the US is to prevent the emergence of an Alliance in Eurasia. Especially between Russia and Germany. With a Russian-German Alliance the US would not be needed in Eurasia. (Remember the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact that resulted in WW2). Thus it would be the end of their superpower status. The US goal is to have Eurasia divided and Russia weak.

But there are problems with the American plan.
        1. Russia controls a lot of energy. This will lead to stronger political control over Europe. This is already showing.
        2. Already Russia is allied with China. This is an uneasy alliance, but it could strengthen if Europe antagonizes Russia. (Major doom for Europe in this case, literally frozing to death).
        3. The US footholds in Eurasia are shaky. US puppet regimes could collapse with a good catalyzator.

Russia is looking set to win the 2nd round of the Cold War.

BlackVoid, if I were Russia, I would ally myself with China and India anyday. China and Russia are the two countries who could stand a chance against the US in a conventional military fight.

A strong Russia-ChIndia alliance would be too much to handle for NATO.

Good thing they need us...for now.

Personally I do not believe in strategic fit Russia-China. Russia-India is more likely. It is not good for Russia to have very strong China because of Far East and middle Asia. But tactically it might work very well. Probably Russia-Germany (or some part of continental Europe) is the best strategic fit.
