Early reports cited 10 Russian planes downed by Georgia. Was the airbase at Tiblisi supporting that action?

Let's put the shoe on the other foot...

My theory is, when analyzing a situation, always put the shoe on the foot to see how it fits. Sometimes it helps clarify things.

I am making no judgements or analysis on this particular situation, but in the spirit of putting the shoe on the other foot....

What if, during a period of severe economic weakness for the U.S., Russia used that opportunity to develop allies in the Caribbean islands and in Mexico/Central America. Military co-operation, financial backing, etc. The U.S. comes out of its slump eventually and then decides it doesn't like being ringed by "non-friends". Panama's government has been very friendly with the Russians due to the lower cost oil it's been getting from them.

But the Americans in Panama (large ex-pat community) are very unhappy and feel threatened, discriminated against. The Panamanians shrug it off, and continue their harrassment of the American financial interests and ex-pats there. The ex-pats beg the U.S. for help. The U.S. which has recovered some of its former military strength, decides to act when the Panamanian government, with Russian backing, invades the American ex-pat enclaves, to force these troublemakers to submit to its authority. Hundreds of ex-pats die. The U.S. government feels it has no choice but to act...

Osetians are not ex-pats they live there long time and treat it as their land. They had a fight for this land with Georgia back in 1992 and won why do you think they will give up now. It is hard to understand for some people, especially in US that most of the nations in Europe paid big price by their blood during the history to have the land they live today. Think about this.

It is not doubt that protecting Russian citizens is an excuse (but not bad excuse since US doing the same or even worse) All parties involved in the conflict knew it and it started long time ago when russian passports have been issued to osetians.

Well might be in europes economic interest to pay for america to fight this one. Is this about a small province in georgia or something bigger...Georgia obviously thinks it's something bigger and that it would receive some backing in the face of increasing Russian power and control of energy. Russia I guess is trying to figure out how strong the west is...they can always pull out if it gets too hot or they can test how far they can stretch their power. Currently looks like a mistake by the Georgians....we'll see I guess.

Europe can fight itself, why do they need to pay the americans.

Europe has 700 million people versus 200 million Russians, which is really not enough to become a superpower (even the Soviet power is fake).
