According to that chart, it looks like gold is essentially flat for 5 1/2 years . . . yikes

If the chart is not adjusted for inflation, that means the value of gold is going to drop 12% a year for the next five years (using current Williams CPI).:eek:

Looks like it would be better to be in Treasuries . . . .

Do you have a source for that? I was unable to find one.

Sometimes metal, you say more in a sentence than those of us prone to analyze can say in a 1000 word proof. Since you sometimes get warnings for your direct approach, I thought I'd add a kudo from someone incapable of writing with your concise delivery. I would only add that we Americans can only blame ourselves for putting these people in power.

And Nature, in her ineffable Wisdom, will duly have the US citizens suffer accordingly...

you've got to thoroughly understand why you take your investment positions and what you're willing to go through with them. of course, you've also got to thoroughly understand why you abandon positions you've taken in the past. nobody knows the future.
Good advise for all investments. I suspect PM will continue to be a good investment as we hopefully dig ourselves out from our current situation in the US. If not, we'll fail and PM will be seen as a great investment

As the 'real estate' bubble unwinds over the next few years, I will be investing more in land with water rights. To me this is the uber-investment of the early 21st Century, the perfect investment for a world running long on bad strategies, long on cleverness, long on humans and short on resources. While I've liked PM for a while, there's nothing like arable land, water rights and renewable technologies to see you through big, long term changes.

As others here have suggested, growth is no longer a plan that will work well for us. If so, we'll have to understand how to live well without economic growth. By the time most people have given up the growth paradigm, it will be too late to buy enough land to serve your family. PM is considered old school but I see it as a modern invention compared to land. Just my opinion of course, but very sure this is the first investment all thinking people should make.

Our US ego and our mistakes are suffered, and will continue to be suffered, more outside the US. If you consider the worst king in the history of humanity, and there are many great choices, none of them suffered like they caused suffering. Not one, and we will not be a new case.

Nature or in the modern idiom, GAIA may be a force with which we'll contend but planning and a modicum of respect will mitigate these issues.

                Lukester,

Resource depletion may occur, but I have yet to see any real evidence of it happening.

So far lots of writing, no action.

As for your usual pile of supporting BS - as usual it is all hat and no cattle.

Sure, someday it can occur. But I'm not seeing any rationing or any other evidence of it actually occuring.

Sorry to go off topic, but Lukester - Is there any chance of following web conventions in your posts, please? Underlined text denotes a hyperlink - It's a pain to mouse over your many underlined bits of text, to find they lead nowhere. I'd be most grateful if you used bold text for emphasis - it would make it a lot easier to read & follow. TIA.

Rajiv, what is your portfolio like? I'm curious to reconcile your cosmology with your forecasts.

Diversifying money out of US$ -- investments into productive hard assets - (e.g. agricultural land) -- developing products and methodologies that will continue to have a market if SHTF

But the last part of it hit a snag -- when the credit crunch came on faster than expected and bollixed up the works!

If we come through, you will hear about it!

Always understated is our Rajiv. I can report the advent of the same *notable* business headwinds. Best wishes to you and to your venture.

I copied it into a little journal that I keep; it's from an interview that he did several years ago. I'll try to find the whole interview (if I saved it) when I have a moment.

Sounds good! Ironically, I may be raising capital for an (Indian) agriculture project myself soon!

                                Thanks.

It sure sounded familiar & correct, but I want to be able to quote an actual time & place when putting it on my quotes page.
