    LAKE CITY, Ga. - More than 1,800 people showed up to help ABC's "Extreme Makeover" team demolish a family's decrepit home and replace it with a sparkling, four-bedroom mini-mansion in 2005.

    Three years later, the reality TV show's most ambitious project at the time has become the latest victim of the foreclosure crisis.

    After the Harper family used the two-story home as collateral for a $450,000 loan, it's set to go to auction on the steps of the Clayton County Courthouse Aug. 5.     I've never watched that show, but I can't understand why someone thought they needed to go from a "decrepit home" to a mini-mansion. Do they think that is some sort of misguided charity? In most cases, "charity" like that is like giving crack to a crack-head.

      did they do home makeover shows in sarajevo before the war?

          Weren't these shows the cheerleaders of the housing bubble? Tight white sweaters, short skirts and blonde ponytails bouncing on the sidelines, pom poms held high, cheering Joe Six Pack as he ran the wrong way down the gridiron.

            i remember reading so many cheerleader articles talking about how these sub prime loans were great to allow poor people to experience the american dream and that home ownership is the first step towards building wealth but one thing i find myself constantly trying to explain to my in debt friends is OWNERSHIP. i think the entire concept has been perverted...
