Do not worry, Luke can take all the abuse anyone can hand him. Being devoid of introspection, any ill directed to him is as water off a duck's butt.

not everyone is like you and i. for every guy who reads a nasty post and says, yeh, go luke! or go jim! or go metalman... yeh, i'm guilty, too... there are 100 that go... yetch!... and never come back. or never post for fear of getting abused. who knows who we don't hear from because of the atmosphere? i'd like to know.

this is the right approach. i support it.

So are you suggesting to the audience that suddenly you have found "religion?" I doubt it.

Thanks for that Scot. What seems to be lost in the rhetoric here is that suggesting someone go to Bangladesh to discover new perspectives on the notion of "inalienable birthrights" hardly constitutes an egregiously insulting comment. If it's insulting, it's pretty marginal in that category. Plus the guy it's addressed to makes fairly blunt comments about political issues himself on occasion, and wears a "football helmet" which is presumably to suggest he's a fan of "political football". I find the resulting sense of deep grievance incongruous. And the enforcer character frankly looks like something out of Marvel Comics to this reader. Must be appealing to those who feel threatened though. If this comment consitutes disrespect and you want to ban me for it go right ahead. Unlike some people, for me there is "life worth living, beyond iTulip".

Leave the first person out of your arguments. Stop talking about the guy's avatar. No one wants to see anyone thrown out. It's a private club. We should all follow the rules.

You don't hear from me anymore - not since Jeff said I lived in a cesspool (Mississippi) that the United States could do without.
The only reason I pay dues and check this website each day is: (1) to have access to the thoughts of Eric Janszen, and (2) to see if EJ or Fred happen to post a comment to a forum on crude oil or gold - where I have about 40% of my liquid assets invested at the present time (the remainder is in cash). I no longer waste mental or emotional energy arguing with the "enlightened". There is simply too much work to be done to waste time arguing with people who already know everything anyway.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure Jeff didn't mean it. Maybe he's never been there.

You are making our point perfectly. Our bad for not catching it.

Spoke to a friend in California yesterday. She told me that milk prices are collapsing and three dairy farmers have committed suicide recently [we know a family that are large dairy farmers in that State]. Folks, as hard as this is to swallow, we need to increase the level of civility in our societies to get through this...
http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/20398 offers an article that also presents a website near the conclusion of the article to keep tabs about how some are missing the safety nets. Ain't pretty. Picked this article up from Fiend's Super Bear Page.

Sometimes just a simple suggestion or an extended hand can help postpone and redirect a behavior that would otherwise result in a tragic situation. My wife is good at that which annoys the stoic side of me but begrudingly makes me feel better at helping someone. She, like I'm sure others do, do so without compensation. I'm more of the 'drop some coin into the needy food container' kind of guy rather than infringe on somebody's tragic circumstances. Tend to be a bit clumsy at that. Maybe needs be me and other thee's need to engage more actively in this 'mess' we're experiencing?

Raz, I once had a very elderly friend who was profoundly deaf and as such, he gave a whole new outlook to life. His view was to give a wave, backwards, across his head. His viewpoint was to let it all wash over his head. Another would be to put slights under the heading of "never let the ba*&#!* grind you down...." ;)

Yes, there are nowadays, to my way of thinking, some very unsavoury attitudes floating around. The secret is to remember that a good point of view, well presented, always has a worthwhile audience. So let the slights wash over your head, you are always welcome.

Thanks, Fred, but you didn't need to apologize. I think I handled it well enough. You can find the exchange at http://itulip.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6633

No, Fred, I'm sure that he DID mean it. He simply didn't think he would be called out since he didn't expect anyone from Alabama or Mississippi to be on this forum. (After all, we-uns don't reed gud down heah, and we is pressed fo time since we haff to organize "lynchin' parties"!).

But that's okay, I've grown used to it. The problem is that I'm no longer willing to expend time and energy with arrogant know-it-alls.
