  • Opting for EU Citizenship

Does this suggest a lack of confidence in the future of living in the USofA?

Americans with parents, grandparents, and, in some cases, grandparents who were citizens of EU countries are filing for citizenship in the old country.

With U.S. in slump, dual citizenship in EU countries attracts Americans

    Re: Opting for EU Citizenship

The article mentions the benifits of dual citizenship because of globalisation. Considering the rising oil prices i think this is a bad argument. Due to exponentially rising transportation cost globalisation is a trend of the past. Apart from the internet our world will become a lot smaller.

It totally makes sense. My whole family has a dual citizenship. My daughter considers studying in Europe (for free).

But there is one catch explained in one of the comments:

Some further research needs to done on this before signing on to a dual citizenship. Some countries have mandatory military service at specific ages. If your new dual-citizen child misses their service at a specific age, the police will be happy to pick them up at the airport and 'escort' them to the local camp for a vacation of a lifetime. It happened to a friend of mine's son. Instead of visiting the grandparents for a month, he spent 2 years in the German Air Force. Poor kid didn't speak a word of German. He learned the hard way."

Agree with the internet part but not the transportation part. We will be traveling in super modern sailing ships. Little energy required. Slow but internet access on board.

Jawohl, Leftenant! That must have been a shocker for the kid.

Some say that there are advantages to dual citizenship in a period of financial and economic uncertainty; e.g., dual passports, potential for emigration, etc.

Already happening in a small way. I sailed past the Club Med 2 when it was at anchor off Dubrovnic a couple summers ago. Looks more impressive than in the pic. The ultimate hybrid?

Even the discriminating Lukester would find little to complain about aboard this little beauty, with it's apparently more civilized approach to life than CA, I would imagine...
Cruise aboard the most graceful ship in the world: five towering masts,
30000 square feet of billowing white sails, a vast deck of polished teak, railings of shining brass. This sumptuous yacht is an invitation to a world of luxury; the perfect combination of the refinement of French maritime tradition and the comfort and sophistication of modern cruising.

Sailing at night, Club Med 2 makes a new stop each morning to enable you to get the most out of the day. A day on board the Club Med 2 is spent in the luxury cruise tradition, with all its highlights: lunch on deck, tea-time, dinner with the Captain presiding, evening festivities...
