  • Great "This American Life" Episode on Housing Bubble

    Not news for anyone here but a great piece of journalism on the MBS / CDO machine in all its glory:

    I heard it on air, and then downloaded it as quickly as I could. It's an excellent piece, If only they'd addressed government debt too.....

      NPR 2006:

      We're Doomed, Doomed I Tell You

      by JJ Sutherland

      NPR.org, March 15, 2006 · iTulip.com is a Web site that appeared in the late '90s that warned of the dangers of the tech stock bubble. When the market finally crashed, iTulip thought its work was done and went dark. Now, the site is back, with dire warnings about the popping of the housing bubble... we're talking massive crash, bank failures, food lines, dogs and cats living together... the apocalypse. I completely missed out on buying a house when it was cheap. (I work in public radio -- couldn't afford it). But now I'm thrilled to report my better half is actually making enough that we might be able to afford housing prices of 1995. At least I can blame society instead of myself.

      NPR 2008: "we knew it all along".

      :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
