  • We Can Solve It

Last night in a fit of poor judgement, I turned the TV onto a channel other than PBS. Anyway, saw a couple of these commercials for WeCanSolveIt.org, website for Al Gore's "We Campaign", each featuring a diametric pair of liberal / conservative leaders saying they agree about working on climate change.

    Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi

    Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton

The political machine seems to be picking up steam.

The Alliance for Climate Protection is an organization in the United States aiming to 'persuade people of the importance, urgency and feasibility of adopting and implementing effective and comprehensive solutions for the climate crisis'. The founder and current chairman of the alliance is former US Vice President Al Gore.

The Alliance is launching a three-year, $300 million campaign aimed at mobilizing Americans to push for aggressive reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. This campaign is one of the most ambitious and costly public advocacy campaigns in U.S. history.

For me at least, it makes me feel more comfortable with my world views and perhaps provides me opportunity over others, and that's about it. I hope to enjoy these changes as they develop.
I don't think it's a bad thing, either. For me personally, I am not so fixated on what degree human activity is affecting the climate, and how much various proposals would do to diminish that. I suspect that the idea of "stopping" global warming is a pipedream. I think the real benefit from these ideas would be a healthier place to live. Better air, better water, better food, etc. Who would be opposed to that? People get wrapped up in politics and preconceptions.
