Thanks for agreeing about the inappropriateness of his comment (at least someone agrees with me on something, if only one point).
Some of California's troubles do come from overspending and its many liberal practices, but I don't think that is the only cause of financial troubles. I think to state it that way would be an oversimplification. I think more can be blamed on the overheated, overpriced housing market and how fast it has fallen. While SF may be liberal (and some of us really enjoy the freedom it offers), much of the state is essentially conservative (the Central Valley, Orange Country, etc.) Things just seem to happen here first (meltdown), so it may offer a window into the future for other states regardless of whether they are liberal, conservative or something in between.
