  • International experts foresee collapse of U.S. economy

    http://www.intelligencer.ca/PrintArticle.aspx?e=918803

Where my warnings never spelled out an exact date, this think tank has it pegged precisely. Here are its very words:

"The end of the third quarter of 2008 (thus late September, a mere seven months from now) will be marked by a new tipping point in the unfolding of the global systemic crisis.

"At that time indeed, the cumulated impact of the various sequences of the crisis will reach its maximum strength and affect decisively the very heart of the systems concerned, on the front line of which (is) the United States, epicentre of the current crisis.

"In the United States, this new tipping point will translate into - get this - a collapse of the real economy, (the) final socio-economic stage of the serial bursting of the housing and financial bubbles and of the pursuance of the U.S. dollar fall. The collapse of U.S. real economy means the virtual freeze of the American economic machinery: private and public bankruptcies in large numbers, companies and public services closing down."

The report goes on to say that we are entering a period for which there is no historic precedent. Any comparisons with previous situations in our modern economy are invalid.
    Ouch!

I remember reading something very concrete from "Leap 2020" that was posted on iTulip last year that predicted total economic calamity in the US in May of 2007 or thereabouts -- which did not materialize. I'm not saying that their analysis is completely bogus, but they over-state their certainty, and they seems to have a mildly anti-US bias. More important, they've already failed one concrete prediction. Personally, I'd trust EJ's timing more.

I found what I was thinking of. The prediction was April 2007 instead of May. It was a post from 2-22-07:

Re: International experts foresee collapse of U.S. economy

Here is a list of predictions from a Feb. 16 2006 LEAP/Europe2020 report:

between the end of March and the end of the year 2006 by a plunge in the dollar (possibly down to 1 Euro = 1,70 US Dollars in 2007) putting an immense upward pressure on the Euro, a significant rise of the oil price (over 100$ per barrel), an aggravation of the American and British military situations in the Middle East, a US budgetary, financial and economic crisis comparable in scope with the 1929 crisis, very serious economic and financial consequences for Asia in particular (namely China) but also for the United Kingdom [8], a sudden stop in the economic process of globalisation, a collapse of the transatlantic axis leading to a general increase of all the domestic and external political dangers all over the world.
Iran's opening of an Oil Bourse priced in Euros at the end of March 2006 will be the end of the monopoly of the Dollar on the global oil market. The immediate result is likely to upset the international currency market as producing countries will be able to charge their production in Euros also.

I had thought that my job as a substitute teacher was fairly secure here in California, especially since I have a Clear California teaching credential.
So, from 1994 until the present date I have been subbing around, full-time.

Well, my little world is now coming crashing down: My school district (in a small town ) is cutting 83 teachers. And this district has cut-back its use of subs to save money. Also, cut-teachers are now subbing.

Two issues have hit the fan with my district: 1.) School enrollment has dropt for two reasons: a.) People are moving out of California; and b.) the baby-boom generation has aged past the years of raising families and enrolling children in public school; 2.) State-funding of public schools has been cut-back because of California's horrendous budget deficit ($17billion, or something around that god-awful number). The State has become serious about paying its bills (and cutting its funding of education) ever since this sub-prime disaster shut-off the credit markets.

So, what goes around, comes around. And the mess in Silicon Valley with the dot.com collapse lead to the sub-prime mortgage mess, now the real estate collapse, the out-migration from California, more sub-prime mess, frozen credit markets, and now the budget mess in Sacramento. And that has lead to the cut in funding to school districts which has hit me with a cut-back in hours.

So, I will have to move-out, too.

Last one out of California, please be so kind as to turn-off the lights..... La ultima persona, antes de se vaya de California, favor de apage la luces. Gracias.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

And when you do manage to sober up and revisit this post (if not already banned), don't waste your time and EJ's bandwith with another hollow apology.
