Seems to me that your short ETFs are a good way to hedge against the possibility of falling oil, ags, etc, so do not understand your nervousness?

I mentioned that I'm betting that falling oil & stuff will *only* happen in the face of a severe recession (where my short ETFs will do fine).

If it falls for some other reason (doesn't have to be a good one... we've all seen the market) , that will bring ag / oil stocks down, gold down and general equities up. I don't think this is likely, which is why I'm not *too* nervous, but it is the main weak link in my current investing strategy.

Bearing in mind the mainland Chinese can't short their own market,FXP "ultra shorts" the Xinhua 25 and is a riskier bet, index is kinda esoteric and I personally have some problems tracking it,anyone out there know a site that has streaming quotes on it.

I'm sorry you are not comfortable with Precious Metals.

          I'm 85% Silver/Gold and have my realtives 100% in PM's.

I have no regrets (neither do they), and I can sleep at night (so can they). All the while getting 35% annualized returns in the process.

I'm talking bullion ONLY here, not ETF's, stocks, futures, options, etc.

Bullion only, 50/50 split gold and silver is my advice. Hold until you have no fear, then sell.

Just saw EJ on CNBC The Closing Bell, talking about alternative energy.
He said the best place to be right now is Cash for next 18 months?

            EJ no mention of Gold?

                    Re: Need investment advice, please...

Thanks, metalman. My problem with searches is I never choose the right search word(s), or all the words return separate categories--like everything on cnbc or everything on janzen but never just janzen on cnbc.

Anyway, you seem to me to be doing a job that I thought was one of the FREDs' jobs, that is to put up good stuff in new threads about EJ's on-going notoriety (maybe not the best word). One of the FREDs is usually on the ball on stuff like this. Must be asleep in the control room.

Further, I come to iTulip to find filtered information by all the contributors, saves me time, not that I don't do some looking at other things myself, but shoot, I can't look everywhere.

Thank you very much again for the contructive information--link to EJ--and to hell with your other bullshit.

I cannot get the link--which is about EJ--to play. May be my DSL, which seems to work on everything else though. Link to CNBC crashed my browser twice.

Anyone else having a problem getting it to play? Good night.

Sorry for you the frustration that causes, assuming you and I have nearly similar frustration thresholds, but it is good to know it ain't just my computer. I still haven't seen EJ on CNBS except when his interview was cut short by the pissy news of the Las Vegas hotel fire.

                            Re: Need investment advice, please...

Just the other day I discovered that a good friend is making a 30% return on a 100k investment in a Payday Loan type operation.

                            Sounds safe to me.

Heard a piece this week on NPR about the problem with the payday loan sharking syndrome – woman borrows from 1 and when the loan comes due she goes to 2 to pay 1 back, goes to 3 to pay 2 back …etc… and very soon she was stuck as she couldn’t borrow enough money from Peter to pay all the Pauls back.

                            Amazing…
