Fort Apache, The Bronx
I saw a Paul Newman movie in 1981 that really impressed me called "Fort Apache, The Bronx".
About a decaying neighborhood of disillusioned poor people, in the Bronx, New York, with little money and no hope. In the movie they are Puerto Rican, but they really represent any poor and marginalized group. Many turn to drugs and crime in the effort to ease their poverty. Paul Newman plays a cop doing his best for the community, but outgunned by the situation and by his superiors, whose only interest is keeping a lid on the discontent via harsh application of law and order. -
