      I'm relatively sure there are more ways than I know to play somethings in Canada, but one can't where I trade just put in xxx.t and place an order.

        jk has mentioned a few times that he holds some Canadian energy trusts. Some of these trade on US exchanges, but not all. Perhaps he has figured a mechanism to purchase Toronto listed companies?

          some canadian companies are dual listed on, e.g. the ny exchange. others can be bought in the us via pink sheet listings - the stocks have 5 letter symbols. there's a brokerage, called pennaluna

          not licensed in ct but might be in texas, jim. there's also interactive brokers
          http://www.interactivebrokers.com/ibg/main.php
          lets you trade on many exchanges around the world.
          you can also buy on canadian exchanges via almost all the standard brokers- e.g. schwab will do it for you, you just need to get hold of the international desk.
