  • Jim Rogers audio from Ireland, I believe

Here is a link to a "conversation" I got off Bloomberg last night. It isn't stated when it took place or the occasion.

It is pretty interesting, I thought, but may be nothing new to many.

Short financials. Long commodities agricultural. Rogers says he's hopping to be out of US dollar by end of this year (I assume it is 2008).

It lasts 27 minutes, and some of the questioners' questions are jumbled, but Rogers' answers are never.

That's exactly what concerns me about this guy.

Every week, a new interview (or more than one).

    Very clear message.

Dovetails nicely into the index he's setting up.

Classic encantation - possibly reinforced by being at least partly true.

Well, the movements in commodities right now are not disputing his statement of where he is invested, nor is the $ today, though he said he thinks it will bounce up sometimes this year.

I believe I saw this interview some time ago, and that the dollar bounce may have just come and gone. The action in Gold and Silver may be on the verge of getting quite interesting. We may be about to witness the long anticipated short squeeze.

Best quote toward the end of the interview regarding American central bank rate policy:

Its the same mistake the Japanese made in the 70's (I assume he meant the 90's), its the same mistake the Americans made in the 70's.

In the 90's the American central bank went to Japanese 4 or 5 times saying, "You are making a mistake. You should let the recession occur, you should let people, you know, get wiped out and then you start over." And they went over there and pounded (banging noise in background) insisted, scolded them, "This is the wrong way to do it!" And now we are doing exactly the same thing that we browbeat the japanese for 10 years.

I think Bernanke is screwing up the US economy. He has lowered rates too fast causing huge spikes in inflation and speculative bets against the dollar, while not able to improve credit availability.

As Basil said, I think this interview is quite old. Rogers is talking about buying the yen because it has been "beaten down." That can't be recent. These days It only takes 108 yen to buy a dollar. This must be 6 months ago atleast when it was 120Y= 1 $.

Rogers makes references to $95 Oil and McCain's "100 years in Iraq" quote. That would place the interview in Jan or Feb of this year.

It's a feaking shame, Bloomberg put up such a poorly referenced audio, but it seems you sleuths are going to get it into its proper time-frame or least approximately. Good.
