Re: IMF to sell its Gold (That tech that Jansen Bloke)

I'm back in line. Hope it is the right one; nothing but cheeks and elbows as far as the eye can see.
    Thanks Andreuccio.

Is it time for us to do a more formal Ask EJ and create an iTulip Education Center, you know, make past information better organized by topic? It's all here. Resurrect the idea of an iTulip Wiki perhaps?

By the way, don't know if folks have noticed but we added a Similar Threads section below. Take a look. It's pretty helpful.

        Hadn't noticed. Very cool.

Fred, you know I love you guys, but I remember asking for this, and being told it was in the works, when I was knee high to a grasshopper in iTulip time. I'd say it's well past time.

An education center would be awesome. At times I find myself looking for a piece of information but struggle with what terms I should be searching for. And then looking through the thread results, I find myself on another topic; 3 hours later I forget what I was originally searching for! Hehehe, And I just end up with more questions! I love this place.

And if China buys what the IMF sells, then what do you suggest?

"The support that the U.S. is now apparently lending to the recently proposed IMF gold sales -- which is a departure from its previous negative stance on such sales -- is causing a few to take profits," said Jon Nadler, senior analyst at Kitco Bullion Dealers, in a research note.
"The price of gold fell on the news, which also corresponded to the slightly better than expected existing home sales in the US and a bounce in the U.S. dollar," he said.

translation: the usa wants to buy gold from the imf at a discount.

I was thinking along the same lines... If the U.S. begins buying this gold, will it be made public, or will it be done and over with before anyone gets word of it?

US to IMF: Sell now or price may drop.

Interesting - one of the shenanigans practiced by the US near the end of Bretton Woods was the accounting for IMF gold as US gold...

I suppose the logical next step is the outright embezzlement of same.

Been buying since 2003, just increased my allocation by 15% " yes bought above $900" (all I could afford, it keeps going up so darn fast, faster than I was hoping it would)

                          Does that answer your question

BTW I have 85% of my portfolio in PM's and have been struggling with only 35% annualized rate of return over the last five years.

                          Hope this helps.

Gnosis - I don't think it's a good time to be buying gold right now. It's had a 40% up-move after a 1.5 year consolidation. Buying it now constitutes "chasing it". Silver is surpassing gold, which is also classic action for the "blowoff" of the up-move.

Please note, prices may indeed be a little higher than now in mid-summer, but the entry point risk will be much lower. That is, it will generally act weak going into the fall, and September through at least February each year seem far and away the strongest months. So I'd wait for any big swoon this late spring and summer, and then not hesitate with small tentative positions - allocate your full position then, as the major bull market is heating up in secular terms. If you see it knock back to 820 - 850 at any time, jump in regardless.

edit: Jtabeb's advice is absolutely not bad either. You can really buy some any time in this window, in 2008. I agree with Jtabeb, it's going to be very difficult indeed to lose money owning gold over the next four years, for example.

I have yet to buy, and will consider waiting for a dip.

Here's what I do: I wake up in the morning and say, "Do I have enough gold and silver?" and the answer is always, "No freakin' way." Eventually after a month or so of ruminating over it, I make another purchase, a poor man's dollar cost averaging I guess. Then I ask myself why the hell didn't I just buy more the month before? Over the last four years it has served me well and I expect to continue on that way until serpents are falling from the sky and Jim Cramer is suggesting gold miner stocks.
At over 900$ a big whipsaw with the rest of what I have might might give me an ulcer, so steady and onward I go I expect. Right now I'm at 35% PM's.
