So is he better or worse than Elon Musk in this regard?

GM has the resources to do some pretty serious DD before making a deal. If they failed to do that, the corporate legal dept staff that were responsible should be sent for a year of installing wheel nuts on the Bolt assembly line.

Elon Musk seems to suffer from the same condition, but I think he's better in estimating what lies he can get away with.
For now at least.

It wouldn't surprise me if at some point the tide turns on Tesla, very abruptly.

You could argue that people with the type of personality of Musk and the chap from Nikola push society to discover what's possible, rather than a slow conservative approach. I think there's something to be said for that, but these personalities can also destroy a companies if not reined in.

Musk particularly doesn't seem reined in, especially in his role at Tesla (his role at SpaceX seems better balanced?).

He making small profit on the model 3.........but everyone else is arriving.
I remember SAAB building the 99 TURBO they had the market to themselves.....then F1 & Group "B" started using Turbo's as well......SAAB were forgotten as everyone else had a Turbo model.......

Musk is the biggest impediment to any corporation doing a deal with Tesla. No corporate Board is going to want the potential liability of Elon Musk.

Time will tell if GM made a brilliant move or a big mistake. We shall see.

He reminds me of a sales rep I used to work with. Could convince himself of the most outrageous claim and tell them to the prospective customer with a straight face. Had to be very careful around him not to get implicated in his web of lies.

PS. how did GM analysts manage to fall for this stuff?

He seems to have already clinched deals with China& Co. and Germany &Co. Why bother with the likes of GM, VW or Ford?

I think i understand what is going on:-

Peek Oil has arrived
You can make Synthetic fuels from reforming of NG
The 3 pronged plan is BEV/FUEL CELL & ICE
"Green power" for EV's
"Green Hydrogen" for Fuel Cell
"Synthetic fuel"

The End of Diesel/Petrol engined cars is NOT the end of ICE, Petrol will simply become a Mix of differant things to make a Synthetic fuel.....called something else.
Advanced Two Stroke engines will help in this matter.


In Short, BP/TOTAL/SHELL are going to be VERY big winners going forward....
