Tactile feedback of physical knobs to control fan speed, temperature and radio is an underrated quality. A large central 'ipad-like' touch screen is an aberration of sacrificing user experience for looks.

But what do I know, smartphones now are 8mm thick and come with both front and read glass panels, forcing users to put them into protective sleeves that make them 50% as thick + adding in width and length, and quickly approaching an average diameter where no normal person can hold them comfortably in a single hand.
Yet people buy them in masses...
Perhaps it makes sense to have a 'benevolent dictator' that decide on what customers really want (e.g. a Steve Jobs), because people themselves clearly don't think much about small and unimportant matters such as their self-interest.

The problem for Tesla is its going to deal with the loss of $600 million of C02 credits its sells to other car producers.

It's not just a matter of fashion. Todays electronics have become so cheap that on a typical circuit board the most expensive components are the connectors, switches and knobs. The digital chips are nearly free, just pennies each.
A mass manufacturer can save millions of dollars avoiding knobs and sliders and doing it all on the touch screen.

The whole field of human factors and ergonomics is crystal clear supporting your opinion.
The shape and feel of control devices makes them far more useable and effective, sensing the clicks of detents as we turn a dial or knob.
It is considered critical for flight safety that all aircraft have exactly these control handle shapes so the pilot can know without looking that she grabbed the throttle not the flaps.

With in a few years they be 100% EV...

In the Control knob debate I am 110% with you, with what I call "Fixed controls" you don't even look.......with the latest VW Golf the heater controls & fan speeds are hidden in menu's that you have the find.......while driving

The trouble is £40,000 + gets you a nice EV, EV is now the "happening" thing......not an SUV Diesel based on a very old Ford Platform....
