The government should just loan the company money at an advantageous rate to the government, or better still Nationalise the industry.

Also they should think about Nationalising the trains too, probably get a good rate.

Why?

The airline business is brutal. All the remains of deceased companies piled up all over the world over the decades is ample proof how brutal the fundamentals are in that business. A lousy place to invest any capital quite frankly. Even the legendary Warren Buffett has learned that lesson; surprisingly more than once.

Theres absolutely no justification for any government to expose taxpayer funding to a financially lousy, non-essential business. If there is still private capital available that wants to take a flyer on putting bums in seats for a drunken weekend in Majorca let them.

Commercial air transport is one of the largest emitters of carbon. Another reason to keep that liability off the taxpayer's balance sheet. Want to save the planet from anthropogenic climate change? This might be a good time to take a large step in that direction.
