Canada has had a 14 day quarantine for anybody entering the country for some time now.

Air freight has to be high value cargo to justify the cost of air over surface transport.

Maybe it's China that has ordered the 380 freighter...in an effort to maintain its monopoly over the global supply of defective masks and non-functional test kits?

A380 was already dead man walking 5 years ago.

Production was due to end in 2021, with the huge cancellations from 50% of total A380 fleet customer Emirates.

                Likely to be sooner now.

                Secondary values have collapsed.

The A380 is like the new DC10, but instead of crashing, it’s a woefully inefficient job creation machine.

Could they have a new lease on life as cargo?

                Certainly not new builds.

If they aren’t refurb’d as cargo, even the long tail spare parts and service support profit will evaporate completely in a few years.

The final tally on $ invested by EU countries to make that political plane failure is going to be epic.

As with the passenger version, I can only see a freighter version of this 4-engine behemoth being useful on a few major city-pairs.
I wonder, in this lower consumption, de-globalizing world we seem to be entering how much need there will be to move things long distances by air. Air cargo requires high value, generally low volume & light weight product. Limited shelf life helps. Otherwise it makes more sense to surface transport.

BY THE CANADIAN PRESS ON MAY 9, 2020

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will not pay the full price for medical masks that do not live up to medical standards.

"We have been working very, very hard from the very beginning to bring in PPE," he said Saturday.

The day before, however, the federal government suspended shipments of N95 respirators from a Montreal-based supplier after about eight million of the masks made in China failed to meet specifications...
