Ah...........81 mph Top Speed, small low grip tyres
    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...188-mile-range

A process will now take place where we going to see most cars/vans replaced with Ev's with sub 100 mph.

I think that people, in particular french people, drive too fast. I would like to see the speed limit set to 110km/hr.

      Re: Back to the future

Most people don't set out to have a fast car, a police officer friend told me once its all down to the Turbo Diesel.
"Accidental performance" in every sense of the phase .......TDi's because they are high torque output they have high gearing for low ish MPG.
Over the years the power of TDi's have gone up as has the torque.

No way you could shift 2 tons of SUV with the "Aero" of a house brick with a petrol powered engine, I mean you could but with crippling running costs. 2nd hand buyers love these things.....not lest because in England you can get something called "Red Diesel". Its Diesel fuel that has a red dye mixed in it so that its easy to spot its non-taxed fuel oil.

People use it anyway.......only this year are moves afoot to tax ALL diesel & those whom have a legal reason not to pay tax can claim it back.

There are 40 million cars in the UK & that's atlest 15 million too many, if each week they go though 3 gallons of fuel that 120 million gallons a week!
With the Northsea production falling it means it has to be imported, its an "indulgence" the nation can no longer afford. Back in the 80's you needed a job to afford a car, no so anymore..........we need to change that.

With the "Re-set" we will need to find more tax, a HELL of a lot more tax!
A Mega tax on "Dirty Diesel" & to a less dergree petrol will be a good start, road charge-ing will be coming for all those urban areas where there is plenty of public transport.

Mike, where does the power come from to charge all those EVs?

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I think that cars costing six months or a years salary are not a tenable proposition unless there is a healthy credit system. If we have a banking system crisis (and we will ) the standard passenger car will become a thing of the past. There will not be a sufficiently large population of customers to keep the production lines going. If any cars at all are sold they will cost what the customer can pay for in cash. I'm guessing that will be about $5000 or so.

            Re: Back to the future

What might happen is UK business (those still working) will lease new cars, the large Audi/BMW/Merc will give way to zero Tax EV's......because they bloody expensive they tend to go for "Cheap" end of the market......that being VW ID3 or forth coming ID1........once these cars are off lease in a few years they be sold to the 2nd hand market.......in a price range they can afford.

Having an EV will be the "Cool, must have" round the city & urban area's ......and the odd motorway (Freeway) trip......up to 85-90 mph ;)

Mind you I miss the sound track of fast ICE cars!
