Re: CONVID 19 V Mum/Baby
Its a bit "Out there"..............but what if this is a warning to the West................ "Look guys you are now totally dependant on China".
This Virus is 3-4 months old & frankly am not impressed...........almost everyone under 80 has recovered.
People in 3rd world nations don't appear to be effected that much, not even Africa.
In fact its have little to impact (as yet) any where not run by CCP.

We're still in very early innings of this pandemic.

Re: CONVID 19 V Mum/Baby
The America Empire is drawing to close, won't die over night but JUST like the British it will in time run down.
We have America STOPPING Russia/Germany from completing Northstream 2, if ANYONE tried to do that to the US there be WAR.
US not too happy with British/China over next gen Telecoms & trying to tell the "51st state/Airstip one" what it will or will not except.
China/US are having a "Trade deal".......US coming down HARD on China
Always remember the Atomic bombs were dropped frighten Stalin more than force an already beaten Japan to sign on the dotted line.....

EJ predicted that in the U.S. there would be a movement towards Fortress America. Trump has been trying to do that. This situation proves his point. As critical supplies and components become scarce, he can now say, "I told you we need to bring manufacturing back to our country. See what happens when we're too dependent on China?"

We've done the terrorist anarchy in the Middle East and a high-tech dictatorship outsourced to the titans of Silicon Valley as they surveil everything we say, email, tweet or think in our own American "social credit" system. Snowden, Manning and Assange have confirmed long suspected truths about our surveillance state and the "state media" relationship between the Democratic Party and elite media. Our people seem sufficiently distracted by their iGadgets, Twitter likes, and Facebook fans to notice they live in a techno police state. Those who do are silenced, otherwise marginalized, or are smart enough to lie low. The nuclear exchange seems off the table, thanks to emergent Russian superiority in strategic weapons and their clear willingness to go all the way, if necessary. They've given fair warning that one foreign soldier's toe over their borders/one grenade on their soil and it's game over. And nobody wants any part of that.
So that leaves us with plague. Out of nowhere, the Chinese coronavirus has dominated the headlines for the last few weeks as it spreads around the globe, far surpassing the number of cases and deaths caused by SARS in 2003. It has prompted extensive Chinese government action including mandatory quarantines, military forcing people into hospitals/internment camps, and propaganda campaigns to misinform the Chinese public and the international community. Internationally, other countries have sought to limit travel to and from China and implemented extensive screening measures to detect those potentially carrying the virus.
My default belief is everyone in authority is lying to me - my government, foreign governments, the mainstream media, politicians, central bankers, religious figures, corporate executives, investment advisers, and people on the Internet. I had hoped the Chinese authorities would see the counter-productive and self-defeating results of fudging the case numbers, but that was naive of me. The CCP is the proverbial scorpion riding the frog. It can't escape its nature. So it is probably safe to assume that things are worse than what is reported.
On the other side of the fence, we have bloggers, credentialed know-it-alls, and the usual purveyors of doom producing articles and posts every day predicting a global pandemic with billions impacted and hundreds of millions of deaths. Doom sells and clicks must be had. Chris Martenson’s daily Youtubes on the coronavirus crisis are getting 250,000 to 300,000 views, versus 25,000 for his regular videos. Say what you will, the man knows opportunity when he sees it.
Even if the current crisis abates sooner than later, the global economic impact is already being felt. And don't get me started on the stock markets. When the coronavirus epidemic is sold as a buying opportunity, I reach for my revolver. Case in point: Tesla’s market value of $146 billion standing 40% higher than the combined market value of Ford, GM and Chrysler. If you thought the last bubble was the big one, well fuggetabout it. The Fed has blown the biggest bubble in history.
And then we have the 2020 elections. Hoo boy. Trump is on track for re-election and the Democrat's continuing efforts to undermine Sanders will be met with the same "ratf*cking" the Berners employed the last go-round with Hillary: stay home or vote for the Orange Man. The polls have been as suspect as they were in 2016 with their predictions of 99% in favor of Hillary, only this time it's Joe and Liz who have egg on their faces (being a pundit/pollster means never having to say "I'm sorry"). Mayor Pete has served his usefulness following the Iowa fiasco and never really had a viable path into Super Tuesday. And now that Joltin' Joe has left and gone away (hey, hey, hey) the Democrat nation turns its lonely eyes to Bloomberg (Woo, woo, woo). What's that you say, Mrs Robinson? How is one loutish, sexist, tin-eared billionaire different than the other? Well, this one's our billionaire, that's how. Looking at how the Democrat elites have embraced Bloomberg, it seems to me Trump should have run as a Democrat. Because doing so - along with giving/raising gobs of cash - forgives all past sins.
Not that any of it matters. The Democratic Resistance showed us the way forward. Whoever wins, the other side will reject out of hand as illegitimate. If Bernie wins and the GOP gets the House, he gets impeached and in a genuinely bipartisan vote. Same for Bloomberg, only before that happens, the Democratic Party splits in two - the progressives and young either abandon it or get kicked out. We are essentially ungovernable come January 2021.
What happens after that? My guess is the KA before the POOM finally materializes. But who the Hell knows? Those who don't won't shut up and those who might, ain't talking.

Many stocks are now in ridiculous valuation territory (Tesla prime example).
Housing is in a bubble in many markets.
Anecdotally speaking, in my city, hipster cafe/tea rooms have been popping up everywhere, charging 5 USD equivalent in local currency for a 1-person pot of premium green tea. Sounds like there's a growing group of people with a large disposable income to spend on everyday things (i.e. rising salaries?).
....Isn't it just a matter of time until we see inflation popping up everywhere?
Part of me wants to wait for the next 'Ka' to invest my money into worth-while stocks/commodities/real-estate/etc.
But I am wondering this this Ka will ever arrive, and whether we're already in the early phases of a gigantic POOM that will end in tears.Last edited by FrankL; February 19, 2020, 11:53 AM.engineer with little (or even no) economic insight

"Although the Sino-American cold war is by definition a low-intensity conflict, a sharp escalation is likely this year. To some Chinese leaders, it cannot be a coincidence that their country is simultaneously experiencing a massive swine flu outbreak, a severe bird flu, a coronavirus epidemic, political unrest in Hong Kong, the re-election of Taiwan’s pro-independence president, and stepped-up US naval operations in the East and South China Seas. Regardless of whether China has only itself to blame for some of these crises, the view in Beijing is veering toward the conspiratorial."
