This looks like real trouble for the Model 3

      https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/polestar/2/

VW ID3 will come in below it, Porsche/Audi above it.....then they directly attack it.

The question is, at a time of recession will the EV market grow or will they be fighting over a smaller & smaller market?

EVs are still a luxury priced purchase. Still limited almost exclusively to the high net worth hordes.
I suspect, in the USA at least, very few new EVs will be purchased outright. The majority are likely to be leased. And since this target cohort has greater income security than the shrinking middle class, I suspect a recession will be a comparatively minor setback to the well funded manufacturers. Not sure Tesla fits that definition, however.

I think his "plan" to build a plant in China is full of pitfalls.

If I recall the battery packs come from Japan (built local to Tesla)..........Company from Japan trying to work in China is....er "Problem-matic" ....still that little matter of WW2.
I know Landrover has had MAJOR troubles with their staff in China (mind you the Coke sniffing Liverpool types are not any better).

As I said, will the EV market grow or will it just be a small pond with more & more fish in it?
Polestar (Volvo) are better at build Q than Tesla, Tesla's flakey build together with Hit & miss service will become a major issune for them.

Anybody putting money into China at this point in time should be losing a lot of sleep.

One of Tesla's ongoing problems is it does not have the manufacturing scale to generate the cash needed to re-invest in product development. The flagship Model S is now more than seven years old. Still looks good, BUT who is going to pay a premium to buy a new Model S when it looks and drives just like the old Model S?

Sales of the flagship model peaked in 4th Q 2015 and have flatlined since. Not a good sign for what is purported to be the leading EV carmaker in the world.
