  • The New Mid engined Vette...........what do we think?

Very good price, bit wide for UK roads sadly as they ARE going to do them in RIGHT HAND drive.

Very much a beast of Trump's America.....V8, not much in the way of Eco-green nonsence

    Your thoughts?

    It’s a beautiful car.

Under $USD60k for base model is a bargain.

Cockpit is a bit avant-arde but I’m liking it.

Value for dollar this has got to be a concern for Audi A8 and Ferrari 488.

Batteries will never replace the good old American V8 for serious petrolheads.

I see Mild Hybrid as the stepping stone, electric off the line then turbo power....

Never will for me. And I'm one of those coastal elite libs who cares about his energy usage. I've also owned a couple v8 toys in my day. It's the cheapest way to get a quick thrill on a middle class budget. And there's a lot of tacit stuff about it. The rumble and shake as it starts up. Being able to do work yourself. Probably why I still chop and burn wood in the winter. I like everything about it. The smell. The axe. The fact it works just fine when the snow's deep and the power's out. Wood works.

Even if some fancy iPhone with wheels gets faster, and they abolish buttons completely, and swap the steering wheel for a trackpad, and manage to get the pig weighing less than an F-350, it's always gonna be some west coast futurist nonsense to me. No noise. No shake. No smell. No heart. No soul. Just the cold, sterile, lifeless face of a computer screen.

I don't know about the solid state thing. I guess if you get high-end enough, and money's not an object, maybe it could work. But wouldn't you think you'd see the solid state batteries ubiquitous in phones and such several years before they'd scale it up to car-size? I remember this from Samsung 2 years ago. Been hearing that song and dance for about a decade now. It's not to say batteries don't have a place. I don't miss my 2-stroke weed-whacker. But still...

I never can be tied to raw, new things,
For I first saw the light in an old town,
Where from my window huddled roofs sloped down
To a quaint harbour rich with visionings.
Streets with carved doorways where the sunset beams
Flooded old fanlights and small window-panes,
And Georgian steeples topped with gilded vanes—
These were the sights that shaped my childhood dreams.

Such treasures, left from times of cautious leaven,
Cannot but loose the hold of flimsier wraiths
That flit with shifting ways and muddled faiths
Across the changeless walls of earth and heaven.
They cut the moment’s thongs and leave me free
            To stand alone before eternity.

Re: The New Mid engined Vette...........what do we think?

I run so quick cars in my time, but being not far from Liverpool (Detroit-on-sea) means I always have to be aware of the threat of a "visit"...........something I can't guard against right now.
I run a Ford Fiesta St line.........138 bhp 999 cc Turbo 3 pot..........to take me to work & back. Its totally crap at driving down my once loved back roads because it has insane high gear ratio's, and ECU that refuses to allow full power 1st or 2nd....................there is also the rather sad fact the brakes are front disks (the size of tea cup saucers) & also small drum brakes...........that take twice the braking distance to stop as my last car.

I will be better, Ford are bring out a 155 bhp version with mild hybrid, disk brakes all round & 7 speed DSG.
