I work in a government office, the woman next to me is from Manchester........she came as a child from a 3rd World nation.
She is very well spoken, very bright & came from a poor background then them!Comment

It must have seemed a wonderful idea, we had just started to de-construct the nationalised industries, were faced with many strikes in these industries due to desperately bad man management and we struck oil in the North Sea. What better solution, use the money from the oil to create a new Ivory Tower; Welfare! Forget about the old fashioned Victorian idea of the work ethic, go down the same route as Australia with their native population, let them sit around in council housing estates.
So now, instead of those with a bit of get up and go starting out in their own very small local business, doing their best to improve their lives via work, while employing others around them; in the process instilling the work ethic throughout their communities ....... they go out to shop lift.
Come on Mike, if I had written that comment in the 1950,s, everyone would have laughed at me. Not now.

When you think China began her take over of Africa in the 70's..................Cuba involvement everyone assumed it was the CCCP, but they were doing their nut over it because Castro was using their kit & couldn't understand where he got the cash..........only resently it was shown it was CHINA.
I was thinking about now we pissed away our Northsea oil/Gas where is our engery coming?
Fracking?..........not much to be had I heard, Nuclear?........who going to foot the bill............Green?...........yes some, but we do have billions of tons of coal under us still. 250 years worth at lest.
EV cars, Uk coal....better balance of payments
