      That was pretty good.

A move towards low-carbon heating sources, OR are politicians afraid of becoming too dependent on Russian gas with north sea production tumbling?
Natural gas cooking/heating always struck me as pretty low carbon footprint compared to a lot of the commonly used alternatives.

It'd be interesting to see what they actually install in new houses for heating and cooking, when not hooked up to the natural gas grid.

I think it's all about "electrification." The idea is to make everything electric. Heat. Stoves. Other appliances. Then the idea is to presumably power it with electricity generated by renewables, or maybe nuclear. Same long term idea behind EVs really. Although I gotta say, it seems to me that new homes are a very small chunk of the overall housing stock. And cooking on electric really kind of sucks; especially for restaurants or whatnot, but even at home.

induction can be ok-ish, although I am not a fan of the forced convection to cool the electronics. Screams short lifespan to me, as the fan will stop working at some point, with the electronics going through frequent rapid warming/cool down cycles. And there's the noise...

Yeah, my old Kenmore on a pilot ain't the prettiest thing you ever saw. But it has been in the house since before I have. It works every time I ask it to. The open flame is fun to cook on. And if the power goes out, I'm still cooking with gas.

Last thing I'd want is losing the ability to cook for a few days every nor'easter that comes thru and knocks out the power. Trading that for some electrical doohickey that probably reports what I'm cooking to Google doesn't really seem like an upgrade to me. It can be nice to live off the grid sometimes, if you're set up for it. It ain't exactly roughing it when you've got ways to heat and hot showers and hot meals and led puck lights and unlimited snow to pack the fridge.

So that got me thinking: folks round these parts who don't set things up like I do either have generators or the have problems. I wonder if the generators would be banned under this schemes too? I think there was some hubub in Connecticut about banning wood burning. The real downside to this type of thing could be power outages. Nothing works, no back ups allowed, just burst pipes and lots of people desperate for a place to stay. I guess you could make everyone buy $30k lithium batteries for the basement by mandating it. But people already can't afford things.

This is all whackiness to me anyways. Round here we already only put out maybe 6 or 7% the co2 per capital Wyoming folk do. And there are lots of easier and less disruptive ways to cut it further.
