Certainly not with the current US Administration.

In fact, quite the opposite if Al-Waleed’s blunt antipathy for Trump is taken at face value.

Difficult to imagine being closer to "the US" than the Saudi Government, which has funnelled unbelievable amounts into K Street lobby firms and the various Clinton entities.

otoh the saudi's just decided to purchase the russian s400 anti-aircraft system, so they may be moving away/hedging their bets. isn't china the biggest energy import consumer in the world now?

                        The Saudis like stuff that's:

expensive(so insiders can take their cut of the inflated price as commission, the more expensive the better)

discrete(Russian weapons deals don't have the same anti-corruption measures as from other countries, or require embarrassing state involvement to keep corruption a state secret a la the Al Yamamah arms deal with the UK)

Doesn't involve getting dirty(Saudis prefer push button warfare or getting foreigners to do their dirty work)

Sends a message(we have other options, but not really...Russian/Chinese stuff is often rubbish even though it's all petro dollar recycling irrelevant)

Maybe includes a promise by Russia to not accelerate the House of Saud's declining resilience.

S400 deal ticks all 5 boxes

How about buying agreement for Russia to actually meet and hold its agreed production cutbacks - something it has been very slow to do.
