    Re: A.I Its coming soon

Key phrase "A report by the consultancy firm PwC found that 30% of jobs in Britain were potentially under threat from breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI). In some sectors half the jobs could go."
You can't predict a break through or even predict when a break through will happen. I beg for executives to talk to me in 1999 when I was representing a Russian who had invented a way to query computer using natural language. Very few executives saw the value of a computer being able to receive inquiries in English, Fast forward to 2005 and my friends company gets acquired by Microsoft.

When AI is ready to emerge no one will be interested, no one will write stories about, and every one will think it is a fantasy!

Yes. If you want to get a lot of PRESS coverage just talk about Artificial Intelligence is the future. AI research has been going on in Universities since at least the 1980s and what do we really have to show for it.

AI is most valuable to CEOs like Marc Benioff (salesforce) and Elon Musk (tesla Motors) to explain why their companies are not overvalued and why their companies share price will go even higher.

I'm not a luddite and some day AI may just happen. But, for the moment AI is useful to journalist at broke newspapers and bubble company stocks fighting to survive.

      Re: A.I Its coming soon

I'm currently sitting in an MIT Bootcamp with a bunch of extremely talented AI/ML focused kids and some MIT professors/lecturers.

AI/ML is real, but I think it was said best about an hour ago when they said we will likely continue to be disappointed in the short term, but will likely be surprised in the long term.

It's not going to change the world today, or tomorrow...but AI will touch us all for real someday.

        A.I is already changing world.
There are many examples like Autopilots, Smartphones (voice recognition, mapping software), image recognition (hospital labs for diagnosis, security cameras), High frequency trading algorithms that I would say are already impacting the world.

Military Drones employ it to match up suspects and eliminate targets.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrNs0M77Pd4 I think he exaggerates a bit but his concerns are real especially in a networked world.

The financial world has been transformed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg7955TGp4U I have little doubt that he is using A.I techniques to sift through large datasets to tease out patterns, He astounded me when he said we always follow the computers orders.

General A.I that I think most people define see as A.I is making leaps and bounds., DeepMind an UK based company bought by Google is at the forefront and is starting to answer what Mental/Consciousness is!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3lEG6aRGm8 Go Champion getting beat by a computer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbsqaJwpu6A&t=885s An A.I playing primitive arcades without no programming at all! it has to learn how to play the game from just pixel data & score.

And with Amazon AWS every developer has access to scalable Narrow A.I

I respectfully disagree. AI is essentially a massive base of instructions for possible situations. Take a look at the folks who have died while using Tesla Motors autopilot???? http://www.latimes.com/business/auto...nap-story.html or https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/15/b...t-tv-says.html

Yup - AMZN needs every hype story it can find

I love tech and AI will come some day in the long distant future.... perhaps when we travel to Mars with Elon Musk grandchildren.

Disagreement is good especially when it is backed up with interesting arguments.

Tesla is actually a good example in the creeping encroachment of A.I though of the narrow kind.

              https://www.semiwiki.com/forum/conte...s-revenge.html

"Mobileye's revenge has come in Tesla's delivery of a new version of its Autopilot software - referred to as Autopilot 2.0 or AP2 - that appears to be inferior to the original autopilot which created a sensation upon its release more than a year ago. The original autopilot software - though released with warnings that it was a beta and that drivers had to remain attentive and that it should only be used for highway driving - led to the creation of multiple Youtube videos of owner drivers sleeping at the wheel, climbing into the back seat or using the system on surburban or even city streets."

Did you view the Deep Mind videos I posted? the neural nets playing Atari games I find fascinating, it means if you can give a process a scoring function which is very easy for a lot of tasks, a general AI could get superhuman at it.

I think Tesla AI is an example of building a huge base of rules - pretend AI .

Having live through at least two financial bubbles - artificial intelligence becomes a big topic near tops of markets as Wall Street loves to talk up things people can't understand to pump stock.

Yes. I liked the deep mind video. Which is what I envision AI to be a truly self learning system and a system that can write its own code or learn and not rely on huge code base for all decisions.

Consider $GOOG or Google uses acquisitions to pump up its own stock. Look at the NEST scam to revolutionize the smart home. In reality NEST was just a cooler looking version of Internet connected thermostats. Google was a primary early investor in NEST and then buys NEST for $3 Billion (this creates a two prong effect Google gets the bulk of the $3Billion because Google was an early investor in NEST and then Google share price gets pump because its adding a product line (even though thermostats are a notoriously low margin business)).

When every body is talking about something - its often too early and a mirage.

On Tuesday, BlackRock laid out an ambitious plan to consolidate a large number of actively managed mutual funds with peers that rely more on algorithms and models to pick stocks.

                  ...

“The democratization of information has made it much harder for active management,” Mr. Fink said in an interview. “We have to change the ecosystem — that means relying more on big data, artificial intelligence, factors and models within quant and traditional investment strategies.”
