Maybe we can talk about something apolitical.
I tracked one of my cars last weekend and many of the guys were talking about how manufacturers are beginning to build “drift mode” into new sports cars and sports hatches. If you want to impress your friends by driving in circles while you smoke your tires it’s ideal but it’s not really drifting, it’s a gimmick.
Drifting is useful but it’s an advanced driving skill. The problem cropping up in the real world is that drift mode only works safely in a controlled environment not in a high speed attempt in a corner where driver and car need to work together to straighten a corner as soon as possible.
Here’s one example of how poorly drift mode functions with an inexperienced driver, high speed and a tight corner.
And, if crashing a $40,000 car isn’t good enough for you, Mercedes will have drift mode in its new AMG. As this article points out, look for a ton of crashed AMGs.

While I haven’t driven a new Focus RS, every report I’ve read says this is without a doubt the best sub-$50k race car you can buy. Why Ford included a gimmicky novice crash mode makes no sense to me. It has nothing to do with generating sales as the RS sells out as soon as dealers get their allocation.
Drift mode takes a well behaved all wheel vehicle and turns into a misbehaved rear wheel vehicle like a Mustang GT500. The GT500 is so famously misbehaved it’s an internet meme. Example below.
