Neither will the Pound Sterling. Especially now that the Brits have bailed.

If you want ponzi banking schemes on a breathtaking scale you need to look to the Yuan.

The collective international posturing that he is part of is trying to walk a fine line so they don't have to acknowledge the reality of the first sentence in this post. Forget the destruction of Greece and the ongoing strong arming of Spain, Portugal and Ireland - it's Italy that is now on the edge and if the gap between French and German economic performance grows large enough to create an irreconcilable rift over diverging policy responses...it's over.

The reality is it is not in the US's interests to impair trade and other relations with the UK. The UK is out ahead of the official consensus on the EU. However, it won't be out there alone for very long it would seem. Obama's threats are hollow. The UK isn't Greece.

I have often wondered how much Sterling still sits in bank vaults in the middle east; that perhaps many took the "Granny" route and stuffed it away rather than throw it under the proverbial bus. In which case, perhaps Sterling might make a considerable comeback?
